Carnew Mart – Cattle Prices – 20-03-22

According to David Quinn, a smaller entry passed through the rings at Carnew Mart on Friday, March 19^th, 2022, and Saturday, March 20^th, 2022.

The mart manager reported that just some 315 cows, including 40 sucklers, came under the hammer on Friday night.

He added that Saturday’s sale attracted just over 850 head of cattle and over 600 calves.

Quinn noted that “trade is still on fire throughout with more grass customers starting to appear for store cattle while forward store cattle are still setting the trade”.

Cull cows hit €1,930, while bullocks sold to €2,220, while suckler pairs peaked at €2,500 and heifers topped out at €1,580.

• “Quality” farmer-type Friesian calves – €120 to €200;
• “Quality” export-type calves – €60 to €100, while “the lighter, softer calf is still proving very hard to sell”.

Sale days:

• Saturday Ring 1– Dry cows commencing at 9.30am. Other categories commencing at 10.30am ringside and online.
• Saturday Ring 2– Calf sale commencing at 11.00am ringside and online

• Cattle may be pre-entered by contacting the office on the week prior to sale day or you can enter by using the mart’s online entry system on its website.
