Mart Report: Culls to €2,530 and bullocks to €2,420 in Carnew – Quinn

 Carnew Mart – Cattle Prices – 25-02-2023

According to David Quinn, just under 800 lots met with a “very good” trade at Carnew Mart’s general cattle sale on Saturday, February 25^th, 2023.

The mart manager reported that heifers peaked at €2,080, while bullocks soared to €2,420 and bulls hit €1,500 at the mart’s latest general cattle sale.

Bullocks:

• Continental beef/forward – €1380-€2420;
• Continental stores – €950-€1430;
• Heavy AA/HE – €1420-€2270;
• Store AA/HE – €850-€1250;
• Heavy FR – €1230-€1650;
• Light FR – €590-840.

Prices:

• LM – 820kg at €2420;
• AA – 792kg at €2270;
• AUX – 754kg at €2200;
• LM – 648kg at €2220;
• BBX – 660kg at €2130;
• BBX – 642kg at €2000;
• LM – 622kg at €2200;
• 3 LM – 394kg at €1360.

Heifers

• Continental beef/forward – €1740-€2080;
• Continental stores – €1060-€1520;
• Heavy AA/HE – €1040-€1490;
• Store AA/HE – €850-€1170.

Calf and cow sale on 24-02-2023

According to Quinn, some 852 came under the hammer and met with a trade that was “similar” to last week.

Shipping FR bulls reached €120, while a general run of continental calves sold to a top call of €550.

• HE – €150-€270;
• Heavy Shipping FR – €60-€120;
• Lighter Shipping FR – €20-€80.

Cull cow prices

According to Quinn, just over 270 cull cows passed through the ring with “plenty of buyers for the good quality cow”.

• Heavy continental cows – €1560-€2530;
• Continental store cows – €1130-€1670;
• Heavy FR cows – €1510-€1820;
• Store FR cows €890-€1340.
