‘Extra bite’ in cow trade as prices to €2,300 at Carnew

According to David Quinn, local and northern customers were active at Carnew Mart’s latest cattle sale on Saturday, July 23^rd, 2022.

The mart manager reported that just over 860 head of cattle and 102 calves came under the hammer.

He noted that “cattle of all types met a very lively trade throughout”.

“Cows were a very lively trade, once again, with a good bit extra bite in the trade,” the manager and livestock auctioneer said following the sale.

“Bulls, while in short supply on the day, were a very lively trade underpinned by specialist feeders and exporters alike.”

“Meanwhile, heifers were very lively for beef forward stores and lighter cattle. Many farmers were eager to replace stock they have sold,” he concluded.
