Blessington Mart – Cattle Prices – 12-01-2023
According to a spokesperson for Blessington Mart, a “good” trade prevailed for all classes of cattle on Thursday, January 12th, 2023.
Continental store bullocks ranged from €650-€1,270 over the weight, while Hereford/Angus store bullocks fetched from €460-€780 over the kg and Friesian store bullocks went under the hammer from €360-€700 over.
Meanwhile, in the heifer ring, continentals traded from €580-€1,140 over, while Hereford/Angus store heifers made from €450-€740 over.
Lastly, beef cows sold from €650-€1,100 over the weight, while feeding cows fetched from €460-€630 over.
Last week’s sheep prices
According to a spokesperson, fat sheep were easier by €2-4/head at the mart’s sheep sale on Tuesday, January 10th, 2023.
They highlighted that a “tougher” trade prevailed for hoggets at Tuesday’s sale, which saw prices reach highs of €152/head.
Lighter ewes ranged from €74-€116/head, while heavy ewes topped out at €125-€152/head.
Heavy hoggets ranged from €144-€149 or €86-€93 over, while factory hoggets made from €124-€144or €80-€89 over the kg.
Store hoggets over 40kgs found new owners from €100-€119 or €61-€74 over the kg at Tuesday’s sale.
Last week’s sheep prices
According to a spokesperson at Blessington Mart, sheep prices at its opening sale of 2023 on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023, were “similar to the pre-Christmas trade”.
The spokesperson reported that lighter ewes changed hands from €86-€122/head, while heavier types pushed from €128-€156/head.
Heavy hoggets made from €146-€153 or €94-€101 over the weight, while factory types sold from €126-€148 or €84-€95 over the weight.
Meanwhile, store hoggets over 40kgs ranged from €104-€122 or €64-€81 over the kg, while store hoggets over the 35kg mark fetched from €85-€105 or €50-€68 over the kg.
