Donal Logan, who works full-time as a toolmaker for a precision company in Co. Longford, is passionate about restoring farm machinery.
He recently brought a Fiat 80-90 back to its former glory following a six-week restoration project.
Speaking to That’s Farming, about the project, which was completed for a friend, Logan said, “This project began with a clean-up and fixing some leaks.”
“I stipped-down the tractor, but when I started to dig deeper, the rust got worse. This is a workhorse of a tractor, but you need to keep the rust at bay. I got the tractor all blasted down and fixed the holes.”
“Luckily, all the panels were fixable – I got the Fiat primed and painted using all 2mac paints.”
“I started to put her back together which was the most enjoyable part of the job for me anyways. I fixed all LED lights to add a finishing touch.”
Satisfaction
Donal explained that the most satisfying element of tractor restoration projects is seeing the final outcome.
“I enjoy the preparation required before you add a splash of paint. The more time you pumped into preparation, the better the outcome.”
