The Beef Plan Movement (BPM) has called on the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and Animal Health Ireland (AHI) to suspend BVD testing for all herds with a BVD negative herd status.
Michael Rafferty, BPM animal health committee, has said that laboratories, used to analyse BVD samples, could be put to better use during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
The farm organisation believe that this is an innovative response to the urgent need for additional laboratory facilities, in order to fast-track test results for the coronavirus.
