Galway Beef Plan Movement will reconvene its AGM at The Ard Rí Hotel, Tuam at 8 pm, tomorrow (Wednesday, January 15th), according to Eamon Corley.
In a statement, Eamon Corley, said: “We apologies to our members for the ugly scenes that occurred at the meeting in Turloughmore.”
“The Galway committee was shocked to experience the levels of aggression and intimidation that was witnessed at the meeting. As a result of this, we felt we had no option but to postpone the AGM.”
The core point of contention, the statement added, was the exclusion of Eoin Donnelly from the election for chairperson. “The Galway committee took this decision because he is not registered with the Beef Plan Movement and had informed the committee that he was aware that there was an issue with his registration from earlier in the summer.”
“The majority of the Galway committee felt that sufficient time had passed since then to have addressed the issue.” the statement added.
“Notwithstanding this issue and in the best interest of our members, Galway Beef Plan committee, together with Beef Plan co-chairs, Eamon Corley and Hugh Doyle, have agreed to the inclusion of Eoin Donnelly for nomination.”
“We acknowledge that the disturbance was largely instigated by non-Beef Plan members and members from other counties.”
As a result, the statement stressed, only Beef Plan members, registered with the Galway group, will be permitted entry into the venue and photo ID will be required.

“We also acknowledge that Galway members, including members of the Galway committee, were also responsible for the disturbance at the meeting.”
“We would kindly request that all attendees behave in a manner befitting the occasion; people who fail to do so, will be asked to leave.”
“As a committee, we feel it is essential that we elect officials from our county to go forward to represent Galway on the first democratically elected national Beef Plan council.”
“We encourage all members to attend the elections, so they can determine the type of representation that Galway has at national level.” the statement concluded.
