After weeks of beef price cuts, prime quotes remain unchanged this week.
Processing plants are offering a base price of €3.40/kg for both steers and heifers, with slightly higher deals of 5c/kg also being sealed.
Between €3.30-€3.40/kg is being quoted for young bulls, with limited demand for this category.
In terms of cull cows, €2.30-€2.40/kg is on the table in some plants for Ps, with €2.60/kg for Os and in the region of €2.75-€2.80/kg for Rs.
Throughput
Last week’s beef kill stood at 27,124, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s database.
Breakdown:
- Young bulls: 2,445;
- Bulls: 798;
- Steers: 11,182;
- Cows: 4,078;
- Heifers: 8,203;
- Calves: 418.
Last year
35,647 cattle (including 406 calves) were presented for slaughter during the corresponding period last year.
