New date for action-packed Bantry Show

Bantry Show returns on the new date of Sunday, August 20th, 2023, for an action-packed day out, reports a spokesperson for the committee.

It is now 27 years since the first rosette was pinned on a worthy winner at Bantry Agricultural Show and many hundreds more ribbons have been awarded to both four- and two-legged competitors in the intervening years,.

Another exciting day of competition is expected on August 20th when the show returns to its home at The Beaches, Bantry, by kind permission of Rowa Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

The Bantry Show committee took the decision to change their date, this year in the hope that it would bring more tourists and visitors to the show, Bantry town and surrounding areas.

As usual, there are classes for horses, ponies, sheep, poultry, cattle, donkeys and arts and crafts.

Highlights

Cattle (dairy and beef) classes are from 80-128, while sheep are from 50-79, horses are from 1-19, arts and crafts are from 119-170, ponies are from 20-49, poultry classes are from 181-183, and we also have a dog show, classes 1D to 15D inclusive.

But the programme is also packed with other types of entertainment; from live music throughout the day, dancing, a fun fair, sheep shearing demonstrations and face painters, there really is something for both young and old to enjoy.

One of the key highlights of the show will be class 128, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s class – The Breeder’s Choice, Traditional 4 or star breeding heifer, with a prize fund of €750.

The red rosette winner will receive €250, with €125 for 2nd and €75 for third, with prize money of €50 for 4th-8th place.

A raffle prize fund of €2,000 is available this year so be sure to purchase a ticket – if you are not in you cannot win.
