‘Ewes with lambs at foot are getting more plentiful’ – Coleman

Baltinglass Mart – Sheep Prices – Saturday, February 6th, 2021

There was a “strong” trade for all types of sheep at Baltinglasss Mart on Saturday, February 6th, according to Tom Coleman.

The mart manager reported that prices were similar to the previous sale or slightly better for quality lots. Also, he noted that “ewes with lambs at foot are getting more plentiful”.

“Ewes were a strong trade and made from €65 up to €141, while ewes with lambs at foot made up to €250 per family.”

Cattle Sale – Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021

Baltinglass Mart held its special sale of beef and store heifers and fat cows on Wednesday, February 3th.

The sale attracted a “very good entry” of all types of cattle, especially heavy beef heifers, according to Tom Coleman. The mart manager reported that trade was strong and described prices as “satisfactory”.

“In other years, this would have been part two of our annual show & sales, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, we were unable to hold our 46th annual show & sales.”

“There was also a very good trade for lighter quality heifers with a top price of €1,000 for 5 Limousin heifers weighing 375kg presented by a local Kiltegan farmer and bought by a local farmer. The top price of €1,500 was paid for a 675kg Limousin heifer, also sold by a local farmer.

“The Kinsella Family would like to thank all the farmers that are producing good quality stock over the years and for their continued support of Baltinglass Mart. These sales were held in conjunction with the weekly cattle mart.”
