Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 17-05-2023
According to Teresa Gibsey, assistant manager at Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, prices ranged from €22 to €2,150 at its general cattle sale on Wednesday, May 17th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.
Prices maxed out at €1,720 in the heifer ring, while cull cows sold up to €2,150, and suckler pairs maxed out at €1,560.
Meanwhile, bullocks soared to €2,040, calves topped at €260, and weanling bulls recorded prices to €1,370.
Heifers
The mart’s special continental heifer sale saw prices range from €440 to €1,720 per head or €1.88 to €4.37 per kg.
The average for heifers 500kg plus was €2.85/kg, and heifers, 400 to 500kg, stood at €2.81/kg, of an average.
Sample prices, as follows –
- CHX – 590KG – €1,720 – €2.92/KG;
- AAX – 475KG – €1,360 – €2.86/KG;
- LMX – 400KG – €1,300 – €3.25/KG;
- CH – 350KG – €1,310 – €3.74/KG;
- LMX – 255KG – €980 – €3.84/KG;
- LMX – 270KG – €1,180 – €4.37/KG.
Dry cows and suckler pairs
Cull cows made from €730 to €2,150 with the best price going to a farmer from, Hollymount at €2.42/kg with an 890kg Hereford-cross.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old Aberdeen Angus cow with a Limousin-cross bull calf at foot maxed out at €1,560.
According to Gibsey, there was a “broad” selection of cows with calves at foot, which varied from €1,040 upwards.
Calves
Suck calves were back in the mart’s main ring on Wednesday, with a full clearance reported by the assistant manager.
A mixture of Belgian Blue-crosses, Aberdeen Angus-crosses, Hereford-crosses, and Friesian-crosses changed hands from €22 to €260 with an average of €115 per head and a top call of €260 for a 70kg BBX bull calf.
Bullocks
There was, in the words of Gibsey, a “magnificent” trade for bullocks, with prices reaching €2,040 or €4.41/kg.
Bullock prices ranged from €350 to €2,040 per head or €1.65 to €4.41 per kg.
The average for bullocks 500kg plus was €2.63/kg and entries in the 400kg to 500kg weight bracket levelled at €2.95/kg.

- CHX – 460KG – €1,770 – €3.85/KG;

- CHX – 338KG – €1,410 – €4.17/KG.
Weanling bulls
A small entry of weanling bulls saw a full clearance across the board and prices from €790 to €1,370 per head or €2.69 to €4.58 per kg.
The average price for weanling 200kgs to 350kgs was €3.37/kg and weanlings 350kgs to 450kgs averaged out at €3.70/kg.
