Report: Prices from €30 to €2,200 in ‘strong’ trade in Ballinrobe

Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 19-04-2023  

According to Teresa Gibsey, assistant manager at Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, Co Mayo, an “improvement in weather conditions kept trade strong, which generated a 97% clearance of stock” on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023.

She reported a full clearance for bullocks, weanling heifers, and weanling bulls at the mart’s general cattle sale, which saw prices top at €2,220.

Bullock prices:

Bullock prices made from €600 to €2,100 per head or €1.98 to €3.81 per kg. The average for bullocks 500kg plus was €3.05/kg, a slight increase on last week.

Top prices on the day were:

  •      CHX – 730KG – €2,100 – €2.88/KG;
  •      CHX – 420KG – €1,580 – €3.76/KG;
  •      LMX – 395KG – €1,380 – €3.49/KG;
  •      AAX – 210KG – €800 – €3.81/KG.
Heifer prices:

Heifers changed hands from €700 to €1,820 per head or €2.08 to €3.88 per kg. The average for heifers 500kg plus was €2.78/kg & heifers 400 to 500kg stood €2.87/kg.

Prices on the day were:

  •      LMX – 560KG – €1,820 – €3.25/KG;
  •      LMX – 435KG – €1,470 – €3.38/KG;
  •      LMX – 490KG – €1,540 – €3.14/KG;
  •      LMX – 365KG – €1,230 – €3.37/KG.
Cull cow prices:

Dry cows went under the hammer from €760 to €2,220, with the best price going to a farmer from Cloongowla, Ballinrobe at €2.96/kg with a 750kg CH.

Another quality BAX cow, weighing 630kgs, changed hands for €1,900 at €3.02/kg in this ring, while in the suckler category, a Hereford-cross cow with a Limousin-cross heifer calf at foot fetched €1,880.

Calf prices:

There was a selection of suck calves for sale, which included a mixture of Belgian Blue-crosses, Angus-crosses, Friesian-crosses and Simmental-crosses.

Prices ranged from €30 to €275 with an average of €145 at Wednesday’s sale.

Weanling prices

Weanling bull prices sold from €650 to €1,170 per head or €2.82 to €3.44 per kg. The average price for weanling bulls across all weights 200kgs to 350kgs was €3.15/kg.

Top prices from today:

  •      CHX – 340KG – €1,170 – €3.44/KG;
  •      AAX – 355KG – €1,100 – €3.10/KG;
  •      AAX – 285KG – €950 – €3.33/KG;
  •      CHX – 295KG – €940 – €3.19/KG.

Weanling heifers sold from €610 to €800 per head or €2.75 to €3.25 per kg. The average for heifers 200 – 350kg was €2.99/kg.

Top prices on the day were:

  •      AAX – 275KG – €800 – €2.91/KG;
  •      AAX – 240KG – €780 – €3.25/KG;
  •      CHX – 220KG – €670 – €3.05/KG.
