Prices soar to €2,380 in ‘very brisk’ trade at Ballinrobe

Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 25-01-2023

According to a spokesperson, a “very brisk” trade prevailed for cattle at Ballinrobe Mart on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023.

They reported that the Mayo-based venue recorded “excellent prices across the board”.

They commented: “The special continental bullock sale met with great demand and a full clearance of bullocks.”

“Prices on the day ranged from €930 to €2300 per head or €2.41 to €3.33 per kg in our bullock ring on Wednesday.”

The sale topper in this category came in the form of a CHX weighing 705kg which sold for €2,300.

Other sample prices were as follows:

• CHX – 395kg – €1,130;
• LMX – 485kg – €1,380;
• LMX – 630kg – €2,090.

Heifer prices:

Heifers, again, according to the spokesperson, were in “strong” demand with prices from €580 to €1,380 per head or €2.27 to €3.63 per kg.

Top prices on the day went to LMX – 480kg – €1,380 and the top price per kg went to a CHX – 320kg – €1,160.

Other prices on the day were:

• CHX – 280kg – €900;
• SIX – 390kg, €1,190;
• SAX – 485kg – €1,320;
• HEX – 695kg – €1,800.

Weanling bull prices:

A small number of weanling bulls on offer met with what the mart spokesperson described as a “good” trade.

Prices varied from €730 to €1,000 per head or €2.56 to €3.13 per kg. The price of the day went to a CHX, 320kg, €1000 and a SIX – 295kgs, €850.

Cull cow prices:

A large number of cull cows were on offer, with prices ranging from €1,000 to €2,380.

The top price on the day was a CHX, 805kg, €2,380.

Other sample prices included:

• LM – 745KG – €1930;
• CHX – 765KG – €1860;
• SIX – 735KG – €1,860.

Sucklers

In the suckler ring, a CHX cow with a LMX calf at foot made €1,920, while other springers ranged from €1,180 to €1,720 for a LMX with her time up to a pedigree Limousin bull.

Sheep sale

According to a spokesperson, there was a “nice steady” number of sheep on offer with a full clearance on Thursday, January 26^th, 2023.

Lamb prices averaged €100 per head with a top call of €134 per head or price per kg ranged from €2.07 to €3.05 with an average of €2.68/kg.

The top call on the day came in the form of whether lambs, 44kg, €134.

• Ewe lambs: 41.5kg, €124, €2.99/kg;
• Cull ewes ranged from €50 to €122 per head with an average of €95 per head;
• In-lamb ewes: €128;
• Breeding ram: €130.
