Bullocks soar to €2,390 at Ballinrobe Mart – Gibsey

According to Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart’s assistant manager, Teresa Gibsey, “numbers continued to increase activity and activity around the ring matched” at its most recent general weekly cattle sale, which took place on Wednesday, February 15^th, 2023.

She reported that the mart’s special continental bullock sale, which it held in conjunction with its general cattle sale, met with “great” demand.

Heifers soared to €1,840, while bullocks topped out at €2,390, and cull cows peaked at €2,110 at Wednesday’s sale.

Heifer prices

Heifers were, in the words of Gibsey, a “superb” trade with prices from €870 to €1,840 per head or €2.39 to €3.39 per kg.

The average price for heifers, approximately 500kgs, levelled to €2.95/kg, which was similar to last week’s average.

Top of the town in this ring was a CHX, 595kg €1,840, €3.09/kg, from a farmer in Curlawn, Caherlistrane, with others as follows:

• CHX – 545KG, €1,780, €3.27/KG.

• BBX – 460KG – €1,480 – €3.22/KG;
• LMX – 465KG – €1,530 – €3.29/KG;
• SIX – 380KG – €1,120 – €2.95/KG.

Cull cow prices

According to the mart’s assistant manager, there was a “nice” selection of cull cows on offer, with prices from €960 to €2,110.

The top price on the day was a LMX, 725kg, €2,110 from a Caherlistrane farmer with others as follows –

• CHX – 835KG – €2,100;
• CHX – 470KG – €1,1690;
• LM – 565KG – €1,400.

Bullock prices

Bullock prices on the day pushed from €940 to €2,390 per head or €2.30 to €3.47 per kg, with an average for bullocks 500kg coming in at €2.96/kg.

The top price on the day went to a CHX, 750kg, €2,390 from a farmer in Frenchbrook, Kilmaine.

Other prices on the day were:

• CHX – 630KG – €2,130 – €3.30/KG;
• CHX – 645KG – €2,060 – €3.19/KG;
• CHX – 490KG – €1,700 – €3.47/KG;
• SIX – 375KG – €1,080 – €2.88/KG.

Weanling bulls went under the hammer from €580 to €920 per head or €2.67 to €3.76 per kg. The price of the day went to a CHX, 270kg, €920, €3.41/kg.

• AAX – 170KG – €640 – €3.76/KG;
• AAX – 260KG – €900 – €3.46/KG;
• LMX – 160KG – €600 – €3.75/KG.

Weanling heifers sold from €580 to €1,060 per head or €2.58 to €3.67 per kg. Top price on the day CHX, 355kg, €1060, €2.99/kg from a farmer in Mullaghgloss, Renvyle.

• LMX – 240KG – €880 – €3.67/KG;
• AAX – 180KG – €590 – €3.28/KG;

• CHX – 270KG – €900 – €3.33/KG.

Sheep prices on 16-02-2023

According to Gibsey, there was a “slight” increase in numbers at this week’s sheep sale on Thursday, February 16^th, 2023.

Lambs pushed between €1.83/kg and €2.77/kg with an average across the board of €2.44/kg.

The average price per head was approximately €94, with a top call of €142 for 53kg mixed lambs at €2.68/kg.

Prices from the day were:

• 5kg ram lambs – €140, €2.77/kg;
• 51kg ewe lambs – €124 – €2.43/kg;
• 46kg mixed lambs – €124 – €2.70/kg.

Cull ewes fetched from €47 to €115 per head with an average of €83 paid per head.

In-lamb ewes changed hands from €102 to €190 per head, with a top price for ewes in-lamb to a Suffolk ram and due in March carrying triplets.
