Full clearance in cattle yard in Ballinrobe – Gibsey

Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 01-02-2023

According to Teresa Gibsey, assistant manager of Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, its cattle sale on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, attracted a “steady” number of cattle with a full clearance of bullocks, heifers and dry cows.

She reported that bullock prices on the day ranged from €890 to €1550 per head or €2.42 to €3.05 per kg, with an average for bullocks 400kg to 500kg coming in at €2.76/kg.

Top price on the day went to an AAX, 550kg, €1,500. Other sample prices were:

  • AAX – 455KG – €1,390;
  • AAX – 505KG – €1,420;
  • LMX – 445KG – €1,260.

Sucklers

Suckler cows made from €1,240 to €1,660 per head, with an average across the board of €1,412 per head.

A Hereford-cross, 695kg, carrying her second calf with her time up to a Limousin bull, topped this category at €1,660.

Gibsey continued: “A good selection of cull cows came under the hammer, despite the confusion over the new TB regulations, with prices ranging from €890 to €1,740.”

“The top price on the day was a Charolais-cross, 780kg, €1,740, with €1,660 for a 690kgs LMX, while a 710kg Friesian made €1,570 and an Aberdeen Angus-cross, weighing 580kgs, sold for €1,430.”

Heifer prices

According to Gibsey, heifers were in “strong” demand, with prices from €850 to €1,980 per head or €2.31 to €3.27 per kg.

The average price for heifers ranging from 400kgs to 500kgs levelled at €2.66/kg, while the top call on the day in this ring went to LMX, 605kg, €1,980, €3.27/kg.

Other prices on the day were:

  • LMX – 575KG – €1,780;
  • LMX – 490KG – €1,450;
  • AAX – 485KG – €1,340;
  • CHX – 470KG – €1,330.

Weanling bulls changed hands from €780 to €1,130 per head or €2.57 to €3.35 per kg with prices as follows:

  • CHX – 270KG – €960;
  • AAX – 440KG – €1,130;
  • CHX – 300KG – €910.

Weanling heifers pushed from €580 to €920 per head or €2.31 to €3.70 per kg with sample prices as follows –

  • LMX – 290KG – €920 – €3.17/KG;
  • CHX – 240KG – €820 – €3.42/KG.
Sheep prices  

According to Gibsey, there was an increase in sheep numbers from last week’s sale on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023, which saw trade “hold steady”.

Lambs made between €1.83/kg or €2.91/kg with an average across the board of €2.60/kg.

The average price per head was €98.50, with tops paid of €141 for 48.5kg ewe lambs.

Prices from the day were 52kg wethers, €128, €2.46/kg. 45kg mixed lambs, €120, €2.67/kg and 44.5kg ewe lambs, €120, €2.70/kg.
