Woman (60s) hospitalised after car-tractor collision

A woman (60s) has been hospitalised following a car-tractor RTC in the west of the country.

The two-vehicle crash occurred outside Ballinasloe yesterday afternoon (Wednesday), shortly after 3:30pm.

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, said:

“Gardaí attended a two-vehicle RTC involving a car and tractor that occurred at Clonbrock, Ahascragh, Ballinasloe, at approximately 3:30 pm yesterday afternoon (29/6/22). “

“A female in her 60s was taken to Portiuncula University Hospital to be treated for her injuries,” the spokesperson added.

No further information is available.

Warning over bogus callers

In other news, Gardaí has issued a warning to the public in relation to bogus callers.

Gardaí has received reports in recent days of people, calling to houses in County Westmeath, impersonating Gardaí to gain entry to houses.

In a statement in recent days concerning this matter, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, said:

“If a person calls to your home, in plain clothes, identifying themselves as a Garda, we ask you to do the following.”

“Before allowing them access, ask them for their full name and rank and take note of this. Ask to see their Garda ID.”

“All Gardaí have an official ID badge which contains their name and photo; check that these match. You can also contact your local Garda Station, who can confirm the identity of the caller.”

“We would ask you to be extra vigilant with all callers to your home and do not allow anyone you do not know access to your home.”

“You can contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044-9384000 or Athlone Garda Station on 090-6492600, 24 hours a day or 999 / 112 in an emergency,” the spokesperson concluded.
