Bailey’s Limousin farm, Meath which has bred heifers to €16,800, will open the gates of its farm to the public this weekend.
The Irish Limousin Cattle Society will host a YMA workshop on the renowned enterprise on Saturday, June 4th, 2022, at 12:30 pm.
A spokesperson for the Irish Limousin Cattle Society told That’s Farming:
“Scotland-based Dougie Macbeth will undertake the role of master judge on the day.”
“There are several activities, including a clipping and showing demonstration; and stock handling and judging.”
“Additionally, Alltech and Keenan representatives will be in attendance to talk about nutrition and machinery maintenance.”
“A Limousin goodie bag containing a halter, comb, soap and a Limousin-branded hat for all participants, with food and refreshments provided.”
YMA workshop details:
- Registration: 12.30pm (if not pre-registered);
- YMA Workshop begins at 1 pm;
- Haltering and breaking demo;
- Trimming and grooming demo;
- Showing and ring etiquette;
- YMA stock judging competition;
- Explanation for placings by master judge;
- Nutrition and machinery presentation – Alltech and Keenan representatives;
- Tour of the Bailey Limousin pedigree herd;
- Food and refreshments.
“The YMA workshop will take place in a compact and safe environment in the yard. This is a day not to be missed; event-goers will see stock bulls Goldies Jackpot and Carrickmore Pocket Rocket.”
Embryo calves by Ronick Hawk, Wilodge LJ and Gunnerfleet Lion will also be on display.
The workshop is completely free and open to all young people from all farming and breeding backgrounds.

Online maiden heifer sale
This event will run in conjunction with the open day – before the online sale of Bailey’s Limousin heifers – which will be penned for viewing on the day.
The online maiden heifer sale will take place on MartEye in association with Mid Tipp Mart from June 3d to June 7th.
Bailey’s Limousins is the home of Goldies Jackpot, a sire that needs no introduction as a pedigree breeder’s bull.
This bull is available for AI through Progressive Genetics, and six of his daughters will come under the hammer at the forthcoming sale.
