Notable demand with Angus bullocks in Ballinrobe – Gibsey

Farming News/Mart Reports: Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart – Cattle Prices – 19-07-2023

According to Teresa Gibsey, assistant manager at Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, “numbers stayed steady” at its most recent cattle sale on Wednesday, July 19^th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

She reported that heifers topped at €1,900, while bullocks followed at €1,740 and cull cows hit €1,810.

Heifers

Prices in the heifer ring ranged from €650 to €1,900 per head or €1.95 to €3.59 per kg. The average for heifers 500kg plus was €2.83/kg & heifers 400 to 500kg average was €2.64/kg.
Prices on the day:

• LMX – 635KG – €1,900 – €2.99/KG;
• CH – 610KG – €1,790 – €2.93/KG;
• CHX – 400KG – €1,200 – €3.00/KG;
• CHX – 440KG – €1,280 – €2.91/KG;
• CHX – 320KG – €1,150 – €3.59/KG;
• LMX – 320KG – €1,050 – €3.28/KG;
• AAX – 280KG – €790 – €2.82/KG.

Bullocks

Bullocks were also “a delightful trade”, especially for the Angus breed, Gibsey reported, as prices varied from €570 to €1,740 per head or €1.36 to €3.34 per kg.

The average for bullocks 500kg plus was €2.58/kg, while lighter bullocks, 300 to 400 kgs, stood an average of €2.60/kg.

• AAX – 657KG – €1,740 – €2.65/KG;
• AAX – 648KG – €1,700 – €2.62/KG;
• HEX – 475KG – €1,290 – €2.72/KG;
• CHX – 350KG – €1,170 – €3.34/KG;
• LMX – 375KG – €1,110 – €2.96/KG.

Dry cows and suckler pairs

This week saw an average for dry cows of €1360 per head, with prices from €420 to €1,830 with the best price going to a farmer from Liscat, Ballyhaunis at €2.65/kg with a SIX, weighing 690kg.

The sale attracted “a handful” of cows with calves at foot on offer with prices ranging from €1,580 to €1,700 for a LMX cow with a LMX heifer calf at foot.
