Sunday’s EGM ‘not an official Beef Plan gathering’

The Beef Plan Movement EGM, which is set to take place at 2pm this Sunday, January 26th, at the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise, Co. Laois, is “not an official Beef Plan gathering”.

That’s according to a statement, which was released by Eamon Corley yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, January 21st) on behalf of the organisation’s “committee of newly elected county chairs”.

“It has also come to Beef Plan’s attention, through unauthorised press releases, of a proposed EGM to take place in Portlaoise on January 26th, 2020.”

This meeting, the statement added, has not been validly notified to the company secretary and has not been validly notified to the members of Beef Plan.

“Any business conducted at that meeting, will not be valid or binding in any way and may be detrimental to maintaining a unified voice for all farmer members of Beef Plan.”

“Any questions that any members of Beef Plan require answers to may be addressed at their monthly county meetings.”

‘Answers, accountability and transparency’

Meanwhile the statement, in question, from the ‘stood-down national committee’, outlines that the EGM will set out to address questions raised over membership registers and finances. It states that the organisation’s rules of governance will also be discussed.

“Beef Plan members want answers, accountability and transparency in relation to current issues in the Beef Plan Movement.”

“We would ask as many members as possible, to make a real effort to travel to this extremely important meeting. If we lose Beef Plan, we will be back to where we were a year ago.” the statement concluded.
