Abandoned donkeys seized from ‘poor’ field

Gardaí from Kilkenny and Callan seized two abandoned donkeys from “poor” land outside Callan yesterday morning (Wednesday, August 26th).

This “planned” action was organised following an initial welfare check on the animals last Sunday, according to a spokesperson for members of An Garda Síochána Kilkenny.

“This seizure was aided and wholly supported by the Belline Donkey Sanctuary, My Lovely Horse Rescue, Kilkenny Local Authority and in communication with the KSPCA.”

“It is important to note that they have not been taken to the pound but instead, this is the first day of their new lives as cherished creatures.”

“Thanks to the assistance of our partners the donkeys it is hoped they will be fostered and adopted together after essential veterinary care and the services of a farrier.”

“No owners are likely to come forward. Thank you to everyone who has prioritised these animals’ welfare over the past few days to get us to this point.” the spokesperson concluded.
