€3,050 for suckler pairing at Ennis

Just over 800 cattle and 250 sheep were offered for sale at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, February 18th.

A mart spokesperson reported that trade was strong all-round, with bulls and heifers similar to last week.

Trade was strong for suckler pairings – they mainly made from €1,700 to €2,400 but a top call of €3,050 was achieved for a second-calved Limousin-cross with a one-month-old Limousin heifer calf.

“A handful of dairy stock appeared today making €950 to €1,220.” 

Light Friesian bull calves made from €30 to €60, while stronger-types pushed from €70 to €140. Continentals hit €445 and Herefords and Aberdeen-Angus entries peaked at €280.

  • 2 CH – 290kgs – €920 – €3.17/kg;
  • 2 CH – 380kgs – €1,085 – €2.86/kg;
  • 1 CH – 280kgs – €870 – €3.11/kg;
  • 1 LM – 355kgs – €1,035 – €2.91/kg;
  • 1 LM – 270kgs – €800 – €2.96/kg;
  • 1 CH – 445kgs – €1,225 – €2.75/kg;
  • 1 LMX – 395kgs – €1,100 – €2.78/kg;
  • 1 LMX – 405kgs – €1,105 – €2.73/kg.

WEANLING HEIFERS:

  • 2 CHX – 297kgs – €830 – €2.79/kg;
  • 1 CH – 400kgs – €1,080 – €2.70/kg;
  • 1 CH – 285kgs – €825 – €2.89/kg;
  • 2 CH – 340kgs – €965 – €2.84/kg;
  • 1 LMX – 285kgs – €800 – €2.81/kg;
  • 1 LM – 400kgs – €1,030 – €2.57/kg;
  • 1 CH – 365kgs – €1,035 – €2.83/kg;
  • 2 CH – 355kgs – €990 – €2.79/kg;

SHEEP:

The spokesperson reported that trade for sheep was “very strong” which led to a full clearance. 

Lambs clicked from €141, while cull ewes fetched from €86 to €130.
