€2,000 for cull cow at Elphin’s special beef sale

Elphin Nart’s special beef sale attracted a high level of interest with ringside and online bidding activity on Monday (June 22nd), according to Gerry Connellan.

Dry cows:

With an 89% clearance reported in the cull cow ring, prices ranged from €530 to €2,000 for a 1,050 kg Charolais cow; an average price of €1,246 was achieved, while

Bulls:

Price for bulls ranged from €890 to €1,770 for a 1075 kg Charolais with a 76% clearance; the top price per kilo was €2.06/kg for a 630kg entry.

Heifers:

“88% clearance of heifers with good quality [entries on offer].”

  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €743 with a maximum of €760 for a 400kg Hereford;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €995 with a maximum price of €1,170 for a 500 kg Charolais;
  • > 500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,317 with a maximum price of €1,650 for a 705 kg Limousin;
  • The top price per kilo was €2.57/kg for a 640 kg Belgian Blue, which made €1,650.

Bullocks:

“91% clearance of bullocks with good quality [entries on offer].”

  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,110 with a maximum price of €1,120 for a 490 kg Charolais;
  • >500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,445 with a maximum price of €2,090 for a 975 kg Charolais;
  • The top price per kilo was €2.38/kg for a 715 kg Charolais, which made €1,700.

Sheep

“Full clearance of ewes ranged from €70 to €116.” the mart manager added.

  • 45 kg – €128;
  • 43.5 kg – €102.50;
  • 42 kg – €100;
  • 33kg – €76.
