66 freshly-calved cows and heifers (all calved from October to January), 14 springing heifers and cows (due in February) and one stock bull will go under the hammer as part of Willofarm’s upcoming dispersal sale.

The sale will be held at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart, Co. Tyrone on Thursday, January 30th, 2020 at 11:30am.

David Throne’s herd, which is milked three-times daily, has a current average of 11,339kg at 4.04% butterfat and 3.29% protein with low SCC.

Life-changing health diagnosis

In the sales catalogue, a note explained: “After a life-changing health diagnosis in May 2019, a decision has been made to step back from milk production for 18 months, hence the dispersal of the entire adult portion of the Willofarm herd in 2 sales.”

“The situation will be reviewed in the summer of 2021 and a final decision taken then as to what the future holds.”

The auctioneers explained: “The cow families, the rock on which the Willowfarm is built, now in this dispersal, become a great buyers’ opportunity.”

“It’s a real opportunity to take advantage of a lifetime’s work of a master breeder.”
