Hoggets to €270 and lambs to €184 in Kilkenny

Kilkenny Mart – Sheep Prices – 09-05-2022

According to George Candler, some 400 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday, May 9^th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that all sheep met with a “lively” trade with lambs to €184/head and hoggets to €270/head.

Butcher lambs – €3.40-€3.91/kg or €150-€184/head:

• 3 54kgs – €184;
• 3 49kgs – €176;
• 5 46kgs – €174;
• 15 45kgs – €169;
• 14 43kgs – €168;
• 20 41kgs – €150.

Hoggets – €2.40-€3.30/kg or €148-€176/head:

• 15 64kgs – €159;
• 17 62kgs – €176;
• 10 53kgs – €165;
• 20 50kgs – €157;
• 20 48kgs – €154;
• 10 46kgs – €152.

Dairy prices:

According to Candler, a small entry of freshly-calved Friesian cows and heifers levelled at €1,737/head and reported a full clearance.

Freshly calved Friesian cows and heifers ranged from €1,320-€2,040/head.

Last week’s sheep prices

According to George Candler, changing Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale to Tuesday (May 5^th, 2022) resulted in a smaller entry.

The mart’s auctioneer reported a “good, solid” trade for all sheep at its weekly sale.

He explained that cull ewes sold for up to €193/head while butcher lambs topped out at €171/head.

Candler confirmed that both the sheep and dairy sales saw a 100% clearance rate.

• Butcher lamb prices up to €171/head;
• Cast ewe prices: €105-€193/head.

• Bullocks – 600kgs – €2.13-€3.49/kg or €1,550-€2,420/head;
• 500-600kgs – €2.31-€3.29/kg or €1,180-€1.960/head;
• 400-500kgs – €1.86-€3.11/kg or €790-€1,440/head;
• <400kgs – €1.70-€3.30/kg or €500-€1,200/head;
• Friesians – €1.27-€2.35/kg;
• Continentals – €1.80-€2.90/kg;
• Beef heifers – €2.40-€3.31/kg or €1,580-€2,320/head;
• Forward store heifers – €2.30-€3.28/kg or €1,080-€1,920/head;
• Light store heifers – €1.70-€3.38/kg or €500-€1,200/head.
