6,650gns Sidekick Papoose tops Emerald Cream of the Crop sale

Limerick-based Emerald Holsteins hosted its first sale in over 13 years last Wednesday (July 31st) at Kilmallock Mart.

The ‘Cream of the Crop’ sale saw 45 of the herd’s “absolute best individuals” go under the hammer.

Speaking to That’s Farming, following the sale, the Nevilles of Emerald Holsteins, said:

“Trade was good with the sale attracting buyers from both the south and the north. The sale averaged 2,575 gns, with 41/45 animals sold on the day.”

Emerald Sidekick Papoose

The top price on the day went to lot 13 [main image], Emerald Sidekick Papoose, who sold for 6,650 gns.

The September-2019-born Walnutlawn Sidekick daughter was scanned in-calf to sexed semen, Seimers Lambda Haniko, for the end of October.

Papoose is a potential 16th generation to classify VG/EX. Her grand-dam, Sterndale Shottle Papoose EX94, won 1st 5yr UK Dairy Expo 2012 and was purchased at the Sterndale and Peak Sale in the UK in 2014.

Besides, lot 14, a great-granddaughter of Shottle Papoose, Emerald Chief Papoose, sold for 3,800gns.

Emerald DG Crushtime Rhapsody

Also, the family parted ways with lot 8, Emerald DG Crushtime Rhapsody, for 5,000 gns. The February-2020-born Col DG Crushtime daughter, is from the highly classified young cow Emerald Lambda Rhapsody VG89-3YR.

Lot 8 was also a granddaughter of Milliedale Dusk Rhapsody EX95, champion at the National Dairy Show in 2018 and 14th generation to classify EX. She was purchased in 2017 for 10,500 gns from the UK.

Furthermore, lot 8 was scanned in-calf to sexed semen, Seimers EXC Hanans, and is due to calve in January 2022. Lot 9, a February-2021-born Larcrest Kenosha daughter, a maternal sister to lot 8, sold for 3,800 gns.

Emerald Chief’s Rhapsody

Meanwhile, lot 6, Emerald Chief’s Rhapsody, pushed up to 4,800 gns. The February-2020-born Stantons Chief is a direct daughter of Milliedale Dusk Rhapsody EX95, champion at National Dairy Show in 2018 and 14th generation to classify EX.

She was purchased in 2017 for 10,500 gns from the UK. Lot 6 was served to sexed semen Seimers EXC Hanans.

Emerald Jordy Twizzle *RC

Lastly, lot 23, Emerald Jordy Twizzle *RC, climbed to 4,400 gns. The February-2020-born Cycle McGucci Jordy Red daughter is from the highly classified young cow, Emerald Solomon Twizzle VG89-3YR.

The grand-dam of Lot 23 was Hallow Attwood Twizzle EX94, a full sister to 2016 Italian National Champion, Hallow Atwood Twizzle EX93.

Lot 23 was scanned in-calf to sexed semen, OCD Mystic Crush, due January 2021. She is also a red carrier, meaning she has the potential to breed Red and White Holsteins when bred to Red and White genetics.

Emerald Unix Sharon

Lot 33, Emerald Unix Sharon, went under the hammer at 4,200 gns. The August-2019-born female is by Croteau Lesperron Unix and is scanned in-calf to sexed semen, Seimers Doc Handsome, due September 2021.

Sharon is a potential 12th generation to classify VG/EX and is from the family that bred AI sire, Picston Shottle (PNH).

  • In-calf heifers served with sexed semen – Hanans, Handsome, Mystic Crush, Haniko, Awesome-Red, King Doc, King Royal, Hurricane, Syracuse & Casper(conventional).
