VIDEO: Quad bullocks find new home

Four Charolais-cross quads, born on a Kerry-based holding, have found a new home.

The bullocks weighed 417kgs and sold for €1,000 when they went under the hammer at Gortatlea Mart yesterday (Wednesday, October 14th).

An online buyer acquired the quads using LSL. It is understood that seven online bidders competed against those ringside.

Breeder, Patrick Howard of Currow, said he is delighted to see the calves stay in Kerry and hopes to visit them in the future once Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed.

€100 voucher for purchaser

A spokesperson for Gortatlea Mart said: “Gortatlea would like to thank the Irish Charolais Cattle society who kindly sponsored a voucher to the value of €100 towards the purchase of Greenvale Ration to the purchaser of the quads.”

Five calves

The dam, named Molly, delivered five bull calves in total; however, one died at birth.

The animals, bred by Howard, who farms between Castleisland and Farranfore, were born on Saturday, August 31st, 2019.

In media interviews, Howard said neighbours were “calling in their droves” to see the new additions.

It is understood that the chances of such an occurrence are one-in-eleven million.
