Demand for roan heifers (both weanlings and springers) is continuing on an upward trajectory once again this year.
A 10-month-old 346kg roan female changed hands for €4,660 following a flurry of activity from twelve bidders at Ballybofey and Stranorlar Mart on Monday (March 1st).
The auctioneer described the sale-topping heifer as “one of the best I have seen in a long time”, a “real cow-maker” that is a “hard to come-by” animal.
“She is a roan heifer; a natural calf and guaranteed not pushed with meal. Her mother is a Limousin-cross-Charolais, and she is off an AI Limousin bull. There is a €50 luck’s penny for whoever buys her.” the auctioneer commented.
Ahead of the sale, the roan heifer was described as a “stylish powerhouse” with “show and breeding potential”.
