Forward cattle to €1,200 in ‘brisk’ trade at Raphoe

According to Ann Harkin, there was “great” demand for all stock at Thursday’s cattle sale at Raphoe Mart.

The mart manager reported that there was “brisk” bidding both around the ring and online.

Speaking following the general cattle sale, she said:

“Quality forward cattle were highly sought after again this week – selling from €2.30/kg to €2.70/kg and up to €1,200 over the weight.”

“Lighter lots also sold very well with in-spec lots selling up to €3.00/kg,” the manager of the Donegal-based mart added.

Raphoe Mart 16-12-2021: This week’s cattle prices

  • Friesian cattle made from €1.70/kg to €2/kg;
  • Bulls/bullocks sold from €2/kg to €2.80/kg;
  • Heifers fetched from €2/kg to €3/kg;
  • Fat cows went under the hammer from €500/head to €1560/head.
Summary:
  • Bulls over 600kgs – €800 to €990 over the weight;
  • Beef bullocks – €800 to €835 over the weight;
  • Store bullocks – €400 to €885 over the weight;
  • Beef heifers – €660 to €1200 over the weight;
  • Store heifers – €300 to €750 over the weight.
This week’s sheep prices:

The mart manager provided the following prices from the mart’s sheep sale on Monday, December 13th, 2021.

  • €90 to €110 for 28-33kgs;
  • €110 to €130 for 34-38kgs;
  • €130 to €150 for 39-46kgs;
  • €150 to €170 for 47-55kgs.
Other categories:
  • Fat ewes sold from €70 to a high of €198.
Previous week’s cattle prices

Ann Harkin reported that a “good” entry of cattle was on offer at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, December 9th, 2021.

The mart manager said that a “great” trade prevailed for all lots at its general cattle sale.

Speaking following the general cattle sale, she said:

“Forward cattle still remain in great demand selling from €2.30/kg to €2.70/kg or up to €1,100 over the weight.”

“Quality lighter cattle also a great trade selling from €2.30/kg to €2.80/kg. Friesian cattle were up in price on previous weeks selling from €1.70/kg to €2/kg,” the manager of the Donegal-based mart added.
