‘Super trade from start to finish’ at Raphoe

Raphoe Mart – cattle sale – 08-04-2021

According to Ann Harkin, there was a “super trade from start to finish” at Raphoe Mart’s most recent cattle sale.

Strong forward stores sold from €2.20/kg to €2.60/kg with some up to and over €1000 over the weight.

“Medium weights were a strong trade from €2.30/kg to €2.70/kg. There were fewer lighter cattle on offer this week which also met a lively trade selling up to €3/kg.” the mart manager commented.

  • Bulls over 600 kgs – €890 to €1015 over;
  • Beef bullocks – €825 to €1055 over;
  • Store bullocks – €400 to €830 over;
  • Beef heifers – €510 to €980 over;
  • Store heifers – €350 to €695 over;
  • Dry cows – €890 to €1670 each.

Demand was strong for forward store cattle at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, April 1st, according to the mart manager.

Harkin reported that these types, including Aberdeen-Angus-cross entry, changed hands from €2.20/kg to €2.60/kg.

“Lighter weights also sold to a great trade with plainer lots selling from €2.20/kg and quality lots selling up to €2.80/kg.

Fat cows sold to a top of €2,010 for a 2015-born, 900kg entry.

€/kg:
  • Bulls/bullocks made from €2.20/kg to €2.80/kg
  • Heifers pushed from €2.20/kg to €2.90/kg
  • Fat cows fetched from €670/head to €2010/head
Summary:
  • Bulls over 600 kgs – €650 to €955 over;
  • Beef bullocks – €650 to €970 over;
  • Store bullocks – €375 to €890 over;
  • Beef heifers – €400 to €935 over;
  • Store heifers – €350 to €785 over.
Sheep prices this week

A larger entry of sheep went under the hammer at Raphoe Mart on Monday, April 5th, 2021, according to Ann Harkin.

The mart manager reported “an excellent online trade throughout”.

Spring lambs sold at:

  • €160 to €180 for 42-44kgs;
  • €180 to €192 for 45-50kgs.

Hoggets sold at:

  • €100 to €130 for 35-41kgs;
  • €130 to €160 for 42-47kgs;
  • €160 to €176 for 48-55kgs.

Other categories:

  • Ewes with one lamb sold from €150 to €210;
  • Ewes with two lambs sold from €220 to €345 with one pedigree registered Texel ewe (one-year-old) with two pedigree non-registered ewe lambs selling to an exceptional €505.
  • Fat ewes sold from €80 to a high of €220.
