Top price Limousin female sells for €6,300 at Roscrea Mart

Report (with heifer prices) from Irish Limousin Cattle Society sale held at Roscrea Mart on Monday, May 3rd, 2021. 

Heifers met with a “phenomenal” trade with 100% clearance and an average just shy of €3,300 at the Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s premier sale on Monday, May 3rd, 2021.

Prices in this ring ranged from €2,200 to €6,300.

Setting the benchmark for the females on offer was daughter, CARTRONFREE PRICELESS ET.

Born in October 2019, Priceless was bred by Martina Browne, Granard, Co Longford. Her dam is the remarkable donor cow, Melbreak Fairylight.

From the same yard at €4,400 was CARTRONFREE PEARL ET, a maternal sister of the previous lot. Pearl, a highly rated heifer, is an 18-month-old Ronick Hawk daughter.

Michael Brady, Granard, Co. Longford secured €3,800 for his Grangeford Jojo Et daughter, COPPERDOOR PANDORA. Pandora’s dam, Copperdoor Kate, has Arita-Ben and Ferry in her sire stack.

Limousin heifer prices:

Meanwhile, MEENROSS PROMISE, bred by James O’Grady, Scariff, Co. Clare, sold for €3,600. Promise is a daughter of Lodge Hamlet and the Wilodge Cerberus dam Meenross Kalipo Et. Besides, she has one copy of the NT821 gene and one copy of the F94L gene.

CLONAGH PLUMTREE TED, a Plumtree Fantastic daughter, changed hands for €3,400. Garreth Behan, Portlaoise, Co. Laois bred the heifer, which is a Clonagh Klaudia, daughter with Dinmore Goldcrest and Nenuphar in her back pedigree.

BRADDEN BRIDGE PETRA ET, a daughter of Ampertaine Gigolo and Foxhillfarm Mary, property of Gareth McGuinness, Co. Meath made €3,300.

€3,100 was the price of BROOKFIELD PHOEBE, bred by Borton, Newbridge, Co.Kildare. Phoebe has Grangeford Jojo Et, Cloughhead Ernie and Oxygene in her sire stack. She sold scanned in-calf to Brooklands Marco and is due to calf down in late September.

COPPERDOOR PRISCILLA from Michael Brady’s Longford-based herd went under the hammer for €3,100.

Priscilla is a daughter of Lodge Hamlet and the Wilodge Vantastic dam Esker-Hill Kimberly Et. Priscilla was purchased by Kieran O’Brien, Kilbride, Co. Wicklow.

CARTRONFREE PEEP ET, the third heifer from Martina Browne, a full sister to Priceless, sold for €3,000.
