Kilrush Mart report – cattle and calf prices – 31-03-2021

Over 400 lots were presented for sale at Kilrush Mart’s cattle sale on Wednesday, March 31^st, according to a spokesperson.

They noted that the entry including over 100 calves, which met with a “fine” trade.

“Calves were well-presented and had a bit of strength, which helped. Friesian bull calves made €75 to €110 in 95% of cases.“

“A few Friesian heifer calves met a great trade and made €255 to €405. Belgian-Blue-cross calves made to €350, with Hereford-cross calves making €180 to €295. Aberdeen-Angus-cross calves made €175 to €275. 100% clearance was achieved in the calf ring.”

“The cull cow ring mainly consisted of dairy culls. A mix of continentals and traditional breeds in the bullock and heifer rings. Quite a number of young cattle.” the spokesperson added.

Last week’s cattle sale

Just over 400 entries went under the hammer at Kilrush Mart on Wednesday, March 24^th, 2021, according to a spokesperson.

They reported a full clearance in the cull section with 50 head on offer in this ring. Furthermore, bullocks and heifers both met with a “very strong” trade.

“A fine trade for calves, but calves were well-presented, and a full clearance was achieved. Lighter Friesian bulls for shipping made €25 to €70, whereas the better ones made €80 to €105.”

“Quite a number of Herefords and these made from €170 to €315. Aberdeen-Angus crosses ranged from €170 to €220.” the spokesperson concluded.
