Farmers the main customers for calves at Kilkenny Mart

 

Kilkenny Mart – calf prices – 23-03-2021

Some 600 calves went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021, according to George Candler.

He reported that a good trade for all lots resulted in a full clearance with a top call of €460/head for a Charolais bull.

He noted that Friesian bulls sold to €200/head, while Aberdeen-Angus-types and Herefords peaked at €300/head.

“Farmers were the main customers with exporters more active compared to last week.”

Kilkenny Mart report – calf prices -16-03-2021

Just shy of 500 entries went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Tuesday, March 16th, according to George Candler.

The mart’s auctioneer reported a smaller entry of calves in comparison to the previous week’s sale, which attracted some 700 lots.

“Trade peaked at €410/head for a Belgian Blue bull with continental heifers to €300. Friesian bulls recorded a top call of €220. Hereford/Aberdeen Angus bulls to a top of €325/head.”

Kilkenny Mart – sheep prices – 22-03-2021

Some 300 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, March 22nd, according to George Candler.

The mart’s auctioneer reported an “electric trade for all sheep” with a 100% clearance.

Hoggets peaked at €180/head, while spring lambs sold to €180/kg and cull ewes reached €185/head.

  • 8 57kgs – €180;
  • 22 50kgs – €159;
  • 10 52kgs – €165.
Factory hoggets:
  • 10 48kgs – €175;

  • 11 45kgs – €145;
  • 12 44kgs – €140.
Spring lambs
  • 40-45kgs – €155-€180/head.
