Candler’s Mart Report: Will prices become more vibrant, or have we reached the peak?

Kilkenny Mart – Cattle Prices – 30-03-2023

According to George Candler, a larger entry of some 1,050 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, March 30th, 2023.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that beef types in both the bullock and heifer ring met with a “solid” trade.

He commented that “more store buyers created an excellent trade with quality stores ranging from €3.20-€4.49/kg”.

“Cull cows met with a fast-selling trade for the 210 lots on offer and a 100% clearance. The super prices for cattle meant that turnover in Kilkenny last Thursday exceeded €1.25 million.”

“Beef numbers were not over plentiful. If the weather becomes drier and sunshine appears, will prices become more vibrant, or have we reached the peak?” he asked.
