Plainer types back €10-€30/head at Kilkenny Mart

Kilkenny Mart report – cattle prices – 22-04-2021

According to George Candler, some 1,100 lots were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, April 22nd.

The auctioneer reported that quality “was not as good as previous weeks”. He noted that forward stores and beef-type animals met an “excellent” trade, while plainer, forward store and lighter-types were easier in all rings.

“Another good yard of cattle with beef and forward store cattle meeting an excellent trade. Some light store bullocks and heifers, plus some plain types, easier by €10 to €30 per head compared to last week. Cull cows again meeting an excellent trade,” Candler added.

Last week’s prices:

According to George Candler, some 1,100 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, April 15th.

The mart’s auctioneer reported an “excellent” trade for beef and forward store cattle in both the heifer and bullock ring.

“Light store bullocks and heifers were a very steady trade. All Aberdeen-Angus cattle attracted a lot of interest. Cull cows met a phenomenal trade with the €2.00/kg barrier broken on a number of occasions.”

“It now appears that the balance of power has switched to the farmers producing beef and not before time. Supply and demand always rule the roost.”
