‘Quality lots derived from the suckler herd sold well’

Kilkenny Mart report – cattle prices – 21-10-2021

According to George Candler, a large entry comprising 1,200 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, October 21st, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that beef bullocks and heifers met with “good” demand, as did cull cows.

“Quality lots derived from the suckler herd sold well. On the other hand, plainer cattle, especially with dairy traits, were more difficult to get away.”

Last week’s prices:

According to George Candler, over 900 cattle were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, October 14th, 2021.

The livestock auctioneer reported that while a smaller entry went under the hammer, a “magnificent” trade prevailed for continental-bred bullocks.

“Some quality Friesian bullocks made up to €2.20/kg. Heifers, perhaps, not as buoyant as bullocks still recorded a 97% clearance, with cull cows achieving a 100 clearance.”

“Overall, there was much more life about in terms of trade with lots of customers,” Candler added.
