According to George Candler, a larger entry comprising some 1,450 lots crossed the scales at Kilkenny Mart on Saturday, October 20th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that continentals, in particular, “sold well” at Thursday’s general cattle sale. Heifers met with a “sharper” trade, but cull cows were a “more difficult sell”.

Bullocks topped out at €2,130/head, while heifers soared to €1,680 and cull cows peaked at €2.45/kg.

  • Friesians – €0.70-€2.00/kg;
  • Continentals – €1.35-€2.45/kg.

Bullocks 600kgs – €1.80-€3.10/kg or €1,140-€2,130/head:

  • 2 FR – 760kgs – €1,600;

  • 2 AA – 660kgs – €1,620;
  • 2 LM – 655kgs – €1,840;

This week’s sheep prices

According to George Candler, some 800 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on 17-10-2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that a similar trade to last week prevailed for butcher and factory-type lambs. He noted that store lamb buyers were “not as plentiful as last week”.

Butcher types topped out at €147/head, while factory types soared to €132/head and stores peaked at €116/kg for 42kgs.
