Cull ewes to €232 as prices up €3-€6/head in ‘fast and furious’ trade at Kilkenny

According to George Candler, some 500 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, June 13^th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that a “fast and furious” response from buyers resulted in a full clearance.

He noted that a “very lively” trade prevailed for lambs and cull ewes, with lambs to €192/head and cull ewes to highs of €232.

Speaking following the sale, he said: “There was lots of life about the trade as buyers were anxious to secure animals.”

“Trade was sharper by €3 to €6 per head compared to last week,” Candler noted.

Last week’s cattle sale

According to George Candler, some 1,000 lots – including over 200 cull cows – passed through the ring at Kilkenny Mart on June 9^th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that trade was similar to the previous week, with bullocks to €2,560, cull cows to €2,470, and heifers to €2,500.

He reported that “price slippages suggested by factories did not materialise at Thursday’s sale”.
