‘Beef bullocks and heifers are not as plentiful as previous weeks’

Kilkenny Mart – Cattle Prices – 07-07-2022

According to George Candler, just over 700 lots passed through the ring at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, July 7th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that there were fewer customers in the market for plainer-type bullocks and heifers.

He noted that “top-quality” beef-type bullocks and heifers met with a “steady” trade with no “significant” change in prices.

Furthermore, a reduction in cull cow numbers appeared to “stabilise the trade” with a top call of €2.90/kg for a continental, with a Belgian Blue cow soaring to €2,010.

Speaking following yesterday’s sale, the livestock auctioneer said:

“If this sale is anything to go by it, appears that beef bullocks and heifers are not as plentiful as previous weeks with many potential agents disappointed. Quality also was not as good as other weeks.”
