Kanturk Mart – Cattle Prices – 04-10-2022
According to Michael Scanlon, just over 700 lots – including 335 weanlings – crossed the scales at Kanturk Mart on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022.
The mart held its spring-born show and sale, sponsored by Southern Milling, in conjunction with its usual weekly cattle sale.
The mart spokesperson reported a “very big turnout of cattle with an outstanding trade for all animals”.
The supreme champion came in the form of a 412kg Belgian Blue male, property of David Murphy, Banteer, at €1400.
The reserve champion, a Limousin male weighing 410kg and owned by Conor Ring, Freemount, changed hands for €1290.
Scanlon explained: “Another milestone at the sale was that we had our very first all-female judging panel with Margaret Lehane and Bobby Cotter doing an outstanding job.”

Weanling prices:
- 3 LM bulls – 335kg – €915;
- 2 LM bulls – 330kg – €915;
- 3 SIM bulls – 435kg – €1000;
- 1 BB heifer – 404kg – €1220;
- 1 LM heifer – 435kg – €1100;
- 3 LM heifer – 335kg – €910.
Cull cow prices:
- 1 LM – 735kg – €1670;
- 1 PT – 715kg – €1620;
- 1 FR – 735kg – €1240.
Bullock prices:
- 10 LM – 740kg – €1790;
- 11 HE – 565kg – €1300;
- 4 FR – 545kg – €1060;
- 2 HE – 465kg – €1110.
Heifer prices:
- 1 AA – 830kg – €1760;
- 1 AA – 765kg – €1690;
- 6 HE – 600kg – €1370;
- 1 CH – 550kg – €1200.
Last week’s cattle prices
According to Michael Scanlon, just under 550 cattle went under the hammer at Kanturk Mart on Tuesday, September 27th, 2022.
He reported that the sale attracted “a fine turn out of top-quality cattle, which reported a full clearance”.
“Entries in the 500kg to 600kg were in great demand, making over €800 with their weight. Meanwhile, 120 cull cows also met a flying trade.”
