Report: Heifers to €2,180 and dry cows to €1,790 in Headford

Headford Co-Operative Livestock Mart – Cattle Prices – 01-04-2023

“A smashing sale with top tier prices and a 96% clearance rate,” is how a spokesperson for Headford Co-Op Mart summarised proceedings at its most recent general cattle sale on Saturday, April 1^st, 2023.

Bullocks reached €1,860, while heifers topped out at €2,180 and dry cows sold to €1,790.

Dry cow prices – Average price of a cow, less than 500kg was €1.78/kg, and 650+kgs was €2.48/kg:

• 595 KG – LMX – €1500 – €2.52/KG;
• 735 KG – CHX – €1790 – €2.44/KG;
• 515 KG – FRX – €960 – €1.86/KG;
• 655 KG – PTX – €1650 – €2.52/KG.

Bullock prices – Average price of €3.07/kg:

• 610 KG – CHX – €1860 – €3.05/KG;
• 530 KG – LMX – €1590 – €3.00/KG;
• 580 KG – LMX – €1820 – € 3.14/KG;
• 398 KG – BBX  – €1560 – €3.92/KG;
• 493 KG – AAX – €1450 – €2.94/KG;
• 446 KG – JEX – €900 – €2.02/KG;
• 320 KG – FR – €640 – €2.00/KG.

Highest price per kg in the bullock ring was €4.27/kg for a 375kg LMX at €1600.

Weanling bull prices – Average price of €2.94/kg:

• 255 KG – AAX – €720 – €2.82/KG;
• 265 KG – LMX – €790 – €2.98/KG;
• 480 KG – CHX – €1440 – €3.00/KG;
• 245 KG – LMX – €540 – €2.20/KG.

Heifer prices – Average price of €2.96/kg:

• 535 KG – CHX – €1560 – €2.92/KG;
• 700KG – LMX – €2000 -€2.86/KG;
• 780 KG – CHX – €2180 – €2.79/KG;
• 605 KG – LMX – €1790 – €2.96/KG;
• 285 KG – AAX – €910 – €3.19/KG;
• 460 KG – AAX – €1260 – €2.74/KG.

Annual spring show and sale:

“Prices were hot, matching the quality available on the day of the annual spring show and sale at Headford Livestock Mart,” according to a spokesperson.

Prices reached €2,130 in the cull cow ring, while bullocks soared to €2,540, heifers shot to €2,640, and weanlings topped out at €1,890 at its annual spring show and sale, which it held in conjunction with its general weekly cattle sale.

Bullocks soared to a top call price of €3.50/Kg, with the top price paid to a Caherlistrane farmer with their CHX, 855Kg, at €2540/€2.97/kg (second prize for best single bullock of the day).
