Cull cows to €3,120 and bullocks to €2,500 at Gort’s show and sale

According to Bernie Fahey, Gort Mart’s beef and store cattle show and sale on Monday, September 19th, 2022, attracted an “outstanding” entry of “quality” stock.

She reported that “very strong demand” was evident in the bullock ring with a 98% clearance.

Continental beef bullocks over 650kgs changed hands from €2.60 to €3.28 per kg, while continental forward store bullocks from 550 kgs to 650kgs varied from €2.62 to €3.10 per kg.

Meanwhile, store bullocks from 450 to 550 kgs went under the hammer from €2.67 to €3.32 per kg.

A range of Hereford-crosses, Angus-crosses and Shorthorn-crosses made from €2.15 to €2.40 per kg.

Heifer prices

In the heifer ring, continentals over 500kgs traded from €2.41 to €3.91 per kg, while 400 to 500kgs entries pushed from €2.47 to €3.19 per kg.

Traditional breed heifers, mainly Angus-crosses and Hereford-crosses, made from €2.06 to €2.32 per kg.

Cull cow prices

Fahey reported that “strong” demand prevailed for fleshed cows with beef to €3.20 per kg. She explained that 50% of cows that were on offer at this sale made over the €2.50 per kg mark.
