Heifers sell to €3,700 at Carnew Mart

Some 450 entries were on offer at Carnew Mart’s fatstock show and sale of beef cows on Friday, January 29th, 2021, according to David Quinn.

The mart manager reported that top-quality continental cows sold for up to €2.80/kg, while, generally, they sold from €2.00-€2.20/kg.

“A very strong trade for Friesian beef and stores with a big demand from local and Northern Ireland buyers.”

  • 1stprize – Shay Hayden, Camolin – Lot 149 – 1 BB – 934kg – €2,700
  • 2ndprize – Tommy Fitzgearld – Lot 155 – 1 BB – 906kg – €2,760;
  • 3rdprize – Helena Fitzgerald, Piltown – 1 BB cow – 1044kg – €2,920.

Carnew Mart fatstock show and sale of heifers

Meanwhile, over 1,400 entries turned out for its 40th annual fatstock show and sale on Saturday (January 30th).

Quinn reported an “excellent” selling trade and noted that four cattle made in excess of €3,000, while thirty cattle sold for more than €2,000.

“Strong factory, feedlot, Northern Ireland and export demand. Heifers for breeding made some top prices.”

  • Lot 125A – 1 BB – 750kg – €3,500;
