Ennis: Prices to €2,450 with plainer heifers ‘a hard sell’

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, almost 1,000 cattle crossed the scales at its most recent cattle sale on Tuesday, September 27^th, 2022.

They noted that plainer lighter, heifers continued to “be a hard sell” while quality bull weanlings met with a “fine” trade.

A special entry of in-calf heifers from two farmers ranged from €2,000 to €2,450, while a small entry of mostly continental suck calves peaked at €530.

• CHX – 290kgs – €930 – €3.20/kg;
• BBX – 370kgs – €1,360- €3.67/kg;
• LMX – 395kgs – €1,700 – €4.30/kg;

• LMX – 455kgs – €2,270- €4.98/kg;
• CHX – 410kgs – €1,400 – €3.41/kg;
• LMX – 420kgs – €1,480 – €3.52/kg;

Weanling bull prices:

Last week’s prices

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, the National Ploughing Championships impacted entry numbers at its cattle sale on Tuesday, September 20^th, 2022.

They noted that trade “remained very strong”, especially for bull weanlings, which saw dominance from farmer buyers.

Meanwhile, quality heifers met with “good” demand with “a little bit more bite in the heifer trade”.

“There were 15 sucks available, and these soared to €580 for a one-month-old Limousin bull. There was a very small show of suckling stock,” the spokesperson added.
