Prices from €4 to €2,460 at Ennis Mart

Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 24-05-2022

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 600 lots passed through the ring on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022.

They said that “trade could only be described as strong and shippers and farmers very active”.

Bull weanlings soared to €3.89/kg, while heifers followed at €3.73/kg at its most recent weekly cattle sale.

Furthermore, they noted that calf numbers were “up slightly” on the previous week with some 160 lots on offer.

Continental calves made to €720, while Angus calves changed hands from €75 to €300 and Hereford calves ranged from €4 to €425.

Meanwhile, pairs in the suckler ring made to €2,460 and in-calf lots topped out at €2,020.

This week’s sheep prices

Meanwhile, a spokesperson reported that just over 700 lots came under the hammer at Monday’s (May 23rd, 2022) sheep sale.

The sale attracted mostly spring lambs and a “strong” entry of cull ewes, while hogget numbers are decreasing week on week.

A spokesperson said:

“Generally, lambs making €3.60/kg to €3.85/kg, depending on quality.”

“Cull ewes are holding pretty well and made to €194. Hoggets were generally in the €2-€2.20/kg bracket.”

  • 10 @ 45kgs – €172 – €3.82/kg;
  • 11 @ 45.5kgs – €173 – €3.80/kg;
  • 10 @ 47kgs – €173 – €3.68/kg;
  • 13 @ 43.5kgs – €166 – €3.82/kg;
  • 20 @ 44.5kgs – €165 – €3.71/kg;
  • 14 @ 37kgs – €136 – €3.68/kg;
  • 9 @ 41kgs – €159 – €3.88/kg.
