Ennis: Feeders and shippers generate ‘good’ demand for heavy bulls

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 200 cattle came under the hammer at its sale on Tuesday, August 9^th, 2022.

The spokesperson reported that there was a smaller entry on offer, including a large number of heavy bulls, which met with “good” demand from feeders and shippers. Some very nice breeding heifers were on offer, and these met good demand.

“A small entry of calves met a good trade, and these topped out at €680 for a Charolais-cross bull of a month old. Meanwhile, in-calf stock made to €1,770,” the spokesperson added.

Weanling heifer prices:

• LMX – 365kgs – €2,140 – €5.86/kg;
• BBX – 375kgs – €1,380- €3.68/kg;
• LM – 370kgs – €1,200 – €3.24/kg;
• 2 CHX – 327kgs – €1,090 – €3.32/kg;
• CHX – 415kgs – €1,170- €2.81/kg;
• CHX – 245kgs – €740 – €3.02/kg.

Weanling bull prices:

Sheep prices

According to a spokesperson, just over 600 lots changed hands at the mart’s sheep sale on Monday, August 8^th, 2022.

They noted that more farmer customers were present for store lambs, while butcher lambs were “very scarce”.

Meanwhile, cull ewes continued to be a “strong” trade with 6 at 97kgs making €207.

• 5 @ 31kgs – €115 – €3.70/kg;
• 10 @ 37kgs – €108 – €2.91/kg;
• 10 @ 33kgs – €103 – €3.12/kg;
• 12 @ 32kgs – €101 – €3.10/kg.

Lamb prices:

• 10 @ 49kgs – €157 – €3.20/kg;
• 14 @ 50kgs – €150 – €3/kg;
• 12 @ 45kgs – €135 – €3/kg;
• 10 @ 46.5kgs – €136 – €2.92/kg;
• 2 @ 44kgs – €130 – €2.95/kg.
