Ennis: Trade for plainer and lighter lots ‘a shade easier’

Ennis Mart – Cattle Prices – 08-11-2022

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 900 lots changed hands at its most recent cattle sale on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022.

The spokesperson reported that a small entry of suckler stock met an “excellent” trade with in-calf lots to €2,300 and pairs to €2,280.

Runner heifers changed hands for up to €800, and runner bulls made to €1,000. A small entry of calves made to €460 for a one-month-old Charolais-cross bull calf.

According to the spokesperson, quality bulls over 320kgs were a “very solid” trade, but plainer and lighter lots were a “shade” easier.

The spokesperson commented: “In the heifer ring, a similar story and again, the better lots held with, the lesser lots slipping slightly.”

“However, the overall average price at Tuesday’s sale was slightly stronger today than last week.”

Last week’s cattle prices

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just under 780 lots changed hands at its cattle sale on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022.

The spokesperson reported that runner heifers climbed to €870 and runner bulls fetched up to €1,040.

Again, in the suckler ring, mostly in-calf lots came under the hammer, and these topped out at €2,400 and pairs made to €2,300. A “handful” of suck calves sold for up to €460 for a one-month-old Aberdeen Angus.

Speaking following the general weekly cattle sale, the spokesperson said: “There was more life in the heifer ring as more farmers were about.”

“Meanwhile, trade in the bull ring was similar to last week, with very little activity by shippers.”

“The top quality lots were very much sought after, and up to €3.80/kg was forked out for the tops of these,” the spokesperson added.
