Weanling heifers peak at €2,100 at Ennis Mart

Ennis Mart report – cattle sale – 06-04-2021

Over 900 entries went under the hammer at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, April 6th, according to a spokesperson.

They reported a “strong trade all-round” with “some very fancy prices for some heifers”.

“Quite a number of autumn-born stock appearing and some very good prices for these in both bull and heifer rings.” the spokesperson remarked.

“Suckler stock were a great trade for pairs and made to €2,600. In the calf ring, the number of Friesians are falling, and these made €50 to €90.”

Furthermore, Aberdeen-Angus-cross calves made €90 to €320, while Hereford-cross calves ranged from €100 to €320. “A top-quality Limousin bull calf made €560. Belgian-Blue calves made to €460 and a few dairy stock made to €1,690.” the spokesperson concluded.

Last week’s cattle sale

Over 1,100 entries went under the hammer at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, March 30th, 2021, according to a spokesperson.

They noted that that weekly cattle sale included over 250 calves.

“The lighter Friesian bull calves made €50 to €80 with the better calves making €90 to €160. A very good trade for beef breeds in the calf ring with Hereford-cross calves making to €395. BBX calves making to €460 and Limousin and Charolais calves to €475. “AA calves were a very good trade also and made €185 to €295.”

“Strong trade in suckler ring but good pairs available today and these made to €2,210.  A handful of dairy stock made to €1,560. A strong trade was recorded for both bull and heifer weanlings.” the spokesperson concluded.
