Ennis: ‘Strong’ trade sees tops of €2,400

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, numbers were “up marginally” on the previous week, with just over 300 lots on offer on Tuesday, August 2^nd, 2022.

They reported that a “strong trade” prevailed at its most recent cattle sale, which generated “some very fancy” prices for “top-quality” lots.

Suckler pairs topped out at €2,400, while calves topped out at €490 (one-month-old Limousin), and weanlings peaked at €1,660.

Last week’s cattle prices

According to a spokesperson, some 550 lots came under the hammer at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, July 12^th, 2022.

The mart held a special autumn-born weanling sale in conjunction with its general weekly cattle sale.

Commanding a top call of €2,680 in the heifer weanling ring was a Limousin-cross-Charolais, weighing 445kgs, a price that equated to €6.02/kg.

Meanwhile, in the bull ring, the category topper came in the form of a 600kg August-2021-born Limousin-Charolais-cross, at €1,810 (€3.02/kg).

Following the sale, the spokesperson said:

“A good-sized sale for our autumn-born sale of weanlings. Some super quality stock available in both rings and quite a few had great feeding in them, especially in the bull ring and more suitable to bull beef than castrate.”
