Ennis Mart – cattle prices – 01-03-2022

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, just over 950 cattle, including over 250 calves, went under the hammer on Tuesday, March 1^st, 2022.

They reported that a small entry of dairy stock made to €1,370, while pairs in the suckler ring topped out at €2,310 and in-calf lots peaked at €1,750.

Speaking following the sale, the spokesperson said:
“Trade for bull and heifer weanlings held, but quality was slightly more variable in the heifer ring.”
“However, quality was similar in the bull ring. Heifers hit €3.58/kg and bulls to €3.49/kg.”

“Light, weak Friesian calves, in some cases, were not bid for, whereas good Friesian bull calves made up to €120. However, there were some exceptionally light calves available.”

“The other breeds met a reasonable trade with continentals hitting €450. Aberdeen Angus calves made to €350 and Hereford-crosses sold to €340,” the spokesperson concluded.
