Elphin Mart – Cattle Prices – 02-05-2022
According to a spokesperson for Elphin Mart, cull cows “almost broke records” at its general cattle sale on Monday, May 2nd, 2022.
In the cull cow ring, two cows – Belgian Blues – changed hands for over €3,000. Leading the charge at €3,140 was an 875kg entry, and following hot on her heels at €3,060 was an 885kg lot.

Suckler pairs
The spokesperson highlighted that the sale included a special clearance of a 20-cow herd. They noted that these, generally ranged from €2,000 up to €2,620, while another great cow and calf soared to €3,600.

Sheep:
They noted that just under 500 sheep were on offer. Lambs remained steady, while cull ewes saw an increase in demand.
Cull ewes came into €200, while ewes with lambs at foot topped out at €280.
Hoggets:
- 35-40kg made from €76-€104;
- 40-45kg made from €104-€154;
- 45-50kg made from €154-€165;
- 50kg + made up to €168.
Spring lambs:
- 38kg – €140
- 42kg – €150
- 5kg – €155
- 5kg – €159
- 45kg – €160.
